The Sikh Museum Initiative hosted the first session on educating the public on new technologies.

Head of the SMI, Gurinder Singh Mann introduced the session and stated that technology was moving at an ever-increasing speed and that the Sikh world needed to embrace these technologies in order to ensure that Sikh history and heritage could be preserved. The success of the Anglo Sikh Wars exhibition in 2018 showed the world of what the possibilities were and examples of creating the Breastplate of Guru Gobind Singh, recreating the Kohinoor diamond was just the first steps to the important work the SMI will be undertaking.

Taran3D delivered the session and covered a number of breakthroughs including 3d printing, augmented reality and virtual reality technologies. Giving examples of how these methods are changing the world, Taran went through different projects like creating lighting installations through to walkthroughs of virtual environments. A demo was given of what the Anglo Sikh Virtual museum will look like through virtual reality.

This was followed by a Q and A where the participants gave feedback on the project and what kind of objects the SMI should model for their Virtual Museum. An advanced session will follow in Leicester.
